HCP Associates Completes Fourth Iteration of Commercial Recycling Study for Pinellas County Solid Waste
St. Petersburg, Fla. (October 7, 2025) — HCP Associates recently completed the fourth Commercial Recycling Awareness Survey for Pinellas County Solid Waste (PCSW), which manages the county’s landfill, Waste-to-Energy facility, and recycling programs.
This year’s telephonic survey focused on measuring recycling awareness and behaviors among local businesses, identifying the key challenges they face, and evaluating opportunities for improved recycling practices. New to the 2025 study were questions assessing how natural events—such as Hurricanes Helene and Milton—affected recycling outcomes, as well as gauging interest among businesses in participating in future focus groups.
“Collaborating with Pinellas County Solid Waste on this study allows us to engage directly with local businesses and better understand their needs and challenges related to recycling and disposal habits,” said Jack Smith, Director of Community Insights and Engagement at HCP Associates. “The insights from this survey will help shape more effective and sustainable waste reduction strategies for Pinellas County and its surrounding environment.”
A total of 351 businesses across Pinellas County were surveyed to better understand their recycling habits, motivations, most recycled materials, and ideas for increasing awareness around responsible waste practices.
The findings provide Pinellas County Solid Waste with well-informed data to guide long-term planning and assess the impact of recent tools and outreach efforts on brand awareness.
