HCP Associates Completes Fourth Biennial Resident and Worker for the Ybor City Community Redevelopment Area

TAMPA, Fla., (January 25, 2024)— HCP Associates, the marketing firm of record for the Ybor City CRA, a division of the City of Tampa’s Development and Economic Opportunity Department, completed the fourth biennial worker and resident study of the district.

Previous studies brought to light community-driven changes and improvements, including new types of retail, pedestrian friendly crosswalks, greenspaces, connectivity to the Channel District, enhancements to lighting  new residential dwellings, and much more. As the historic district redevelops and grows, the Ybor City CRA continues to seek feedback on issues related to quality of life occurring throughout Ybor City. The study aims to:

  • Collect perceived assets and opportunities for the district
  • Understand development priorities from resident and worker perspectives
  • Track significant changes in stakeholder response
  • Understand resident and worker needs
  • Align community needs with future development plans

In this study, 555 participants shared feedback: 285 residents and 270 workers. Four themes emerged from the data, community activation, retail development, parking and transportation, and safety and security. The findings reinforce existing opportunities for Ybor City to improve the quality of life and encourage redevelopment in the historic district.

Jack Smith, HCP’s Research Analyst, presented the results to the public at the Ybor City Community Advisory Committee meeting on January 23.  Smith stated that “we continue to see progress through the last eight years of the biennial study. Residents and workers love Ybor and agree they want to see the historic district grow and thrive again.”
